Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company, MediaTek, and Canonical, are joining forces to build multi-purpose, future-proofed home gateways and premium routers based on the MediaTek smart home gateways chipset and ‘snappy’ Ubuntu Core. The home gateways will be capable of adapting to the evolving demands of the smart home, thanks to the versatility and power of MediaTek’s hardware. They will also benefit from built-in support for OTA upgrades and the flexible app-based architecture inherent in Ubuntu Core; the super lightweight version of Ubuntu specifically designed for IoT and use on the smallest devices.
Home gateways are becoming a more prominent feature in the home as demand for differentiated bandwidth is growing. According to recent figures from Gartner, the smart home market is expected to grow from 100 and 200 million homes today to 500 and 700 million homes by 2020. Distributing multiple streams of HD video over WiFi is proving more and more common in media-hungry households; traditional routers fail to deliver the differentiated bandwidth or adapt their WiFi signal strength to the individual architecture of each home. To help tackle this issue, MediaTek and Canonical are partnering to offer flexible and monetizable bandwidth management capabilities to OEMs and network operators.

Budgie-Remix is a new Linux distribution based on Ubuntu that uses the Budgie desktop environment. This is the first try in having an Ubuntu-based distribution running this new desktop as default.
Budgie is a desktop environment developed by the same people who are working on Solus, a relatively new Linux distribution. Just last week, the founder of Canonical, Mark Shuttleworth said that he would support a new Ubuntu flavor based on this new and very popular desktop.
The idea of having an Ubuntu OS with Budgie took hold in the community, and it only took a developer a few days to put an ISO together. The work is done by David Mohammed, but it's just a preliminary iteration. It's not stable and it will be likely modified in the coming months.
Ubuntu Budgie is a thing
David didn't name the new distro Ubuntu Budgie because he didn't want to get into the whole Ubuntu trademark discussion. If the developer continues on this road, he could eventually turn the Budgie-Remix into a proper Ubuntu flavor.
"I’ve added my budgie PPA. Hand-cranked a wallpaper, icon and theme via directly editing some base operating files. LightDM logon screen has been edited manually. I’ve added Gnome-Software, Nautilus (Files), Gnome-tweak-tool and dconf-editor to the mix. Then used the wonderful Pinguy Builder to create an ISO. It’s 64bit only and is only to be used in Virtualbox/Gnome-Boxes etc.," David wrote.
This is very early work, and it will take a long time until it is good enough to enter the greater Ubuntu family. You can think of it as a proof of concept, to show that it can be done and that it's easy to build.
There is no guarantee that Budgie-Remix will become the next Ubuntu Budgie, but it's nice to see just how implicated the community really is and how fast they can mobilize.
The lead developer for Budgie, Ikey Doherty already gave his blessing and said that other developers using Budgie are also a good thing since they would eventually send patches upstream, improving the desktop environment in the process.

Canonical i Intel organizirali trening u primjeni Snappy Ubuntu Corea u IoTu za preko 60 OEM i ODM kompanija u Taipeiju.
Canonical and Intel continue to further their partnership in the IoT business, and the two companies have just recently completed a training session for developers at the Taipei Intel Technology Training Center.
It's becoming obvious that the IoT industry is starting to gather some inertia, and developers need to be kept in the loop. For now, the extent of the IoT usability hasn't been determined, and it looks like companies are still trying to find out what they can do with this technology.
Intel, for example, is taking advantage of the NUC platform to build IoT gateways, and they are using Snappy Ubuntu Core to power them. Since this a relatively new domain, it also means that developers need to learn about the potential of this technology straight from the source, which in this case is Intel and Canonical, the makers of Ubuntu.
Learning the ways of Ubuntu
Just a couple of weeks ago, Intel revealed that Snappy Ubuntu Core was working on the latest Intel NUC DE3815TY. That was clearly just a small example of the collaboration between the two companies, and it's most likely going to be extended in the future.
Intel and Canonical organized snappy Ubuntu Core workshops at the Taipei Intel Technology Training Center, and in the event participated more than 60 industry OEMs and ODMs. This is actually a very large turn-up since we're not talking only about individual developers, but companies.

Re: TOP TEMA: Ubuntu vijesti
http://news.softpedia.com/news/canonica ... 1556.shtmlLong story short, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS will not support the AMD Catalyst proprietary graphics driver for AMD GPUs (Graphics Processing Units), which is known to the community as the fglrx driver. Instead, Canonical recommends users using the open-source Radeon and AMDGPU alternatives.
(...)
"The fglrx driver is now deprecated in 16.04, and we recommend its open source alternatives (radeon and amdgpu). AMD put a lot of work into the drivers, and we backported kernel code from Linux 4.5 to provide a better experience," reads the preliminary release notes for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.
(...)
On the other hand, if you are upgrading from a previously supported release of Ubuntu Linux, such as Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) or Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), you should be aware of the fact that the fglrx driver will be automatically purged from your system, including the xorg.conf configuration file.

Baš me zanima.
)

Where there is a gui there's a way.
Re: TOP TEMA: Ubuntu vijesti

Upravo to. Bit će to veliki iskorak u dosadašnjem razvoju.
