Mesa 10.3 is in the process of making its way to Ubuntu 14.10.

Maarten Lankhorst of Canonical has pushed Mesa 10.3.0 into the utopic-proposed archive after merging the updated Mesa packages from debian-experimental. Confirmation of Mesa 10.3 coming for Ubuntu 14.10 can be found via this change message.

Mesa 10.3 was officially released last week and features many improvements and new capabilities. On the graphics front, earlier this month was when X.Org Server 1.16 finally landed for Ubuntu 14.10.

MATE Desktop developer, to obećava "budućnost", nisam znao da Alan voli Gnome 2, inače za one koji ne znaju Alan Pope je jedan od Canonicalovih developera zadužen za core programe Ubuntu Toucha između ostalog. Sviđa mi se ova verzija, mislim da ću je sada preporučivati ljudima sa slabijim računalima umjesto Xubuntua

Sumnjam da će se zvati Mubuntu, vjerovatno će ostati Ubuntu MATE. Službeni status Ubuntu derivata još nisu dobili ali to ne bi trebao biti problem.

Meni se više sviđa od Cinnamona na primjer, ako želim fancy desktop sa efektima instalirati ću si lijepo KDE. MATE mi je ugodni minimalizam ali puno ljepši od XFCEa.

Adam Conrad on the behalf of the Ubuntu development community has announced the final beta release of the upcoming Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" and its derivatives.

Ubuntu's Desktop, Server, Cloud, and Core products are participating in this final beta along with the many Ubuntu derivatives like Kubuntu and Xubuntu. Conrad wrote, "14.10 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution. The team has been hard at work through this cycle, introducing new features and fixing bugs...The beta images are known to be reasonably free of showstopper CD build or installer bugs, while representing a very recent snapshot of 14.10 that should be representative of the features intended to ship with the final release expected on October 23rd, 2014."

Ubuntu 14.10 brings many package updates and other improvements while most of Canonical's investment into 14.10 has been around the next-generation Unity interface with their current mobile endeavors. For Ubuntu 14.10, Unity 7 remains the default while a Unity-Desktop-Next package is available for testing.

Long Battery Life

Ubuntu for Phones enforces a strict, iOS-like App Cycle policy. Applications cannot run in the background like they can on Android unless they have been whitelisted to do so (e.g., as the default Music app).

Instead app developers are encouraged to use native system services, like Push Messaging and the Content/Media Hubs, to handle their traditional background functionality.

“Applications are not allowed to run in background. Our application lifecycle is strict in this respect and we only guarantee focused applications to be running.” ~ Thomas Voss, Canonical

Will this affect multitasking? Ish. Background apps are able to continue running for a short period when unfocused, but their access to the CPU, GPU or network features is not guaranteed. They will still be listed in the (slick new) App Switcher, and will instantly be brought back to life as soon as you call them up again.

Being firm about what applications can and cannot do is needed to offer a predictable and dependable battery life.

Tri stvari koje treba očekivati od Ubuntu mobitela prema viđenju autora. Sviđa mi se jako ovaj citirani dio sa upravljanjem pozadinskim programima. Ne toliko radi baterije koliko radi više slobodnog RAMa.
