Today, March 22, 2016, Canonical's Sergio Schvezov announced the release of Snapcraft 2.5, the Snappy creator tool used to create and manage snaps for the Snappy Ubuntu Core operating system.

According to the release announcement, Snapcraft 2.5 is here to introduce a kernel plugin with cross-compilation support, along with a kbuild plugin, which can be used for creating kernel snaps.

For now, creating kernel snaps is an experimental feature in Snapcraft but will soon reach production standard as Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) will hit streets in less than one month from the moment of writing this article.

Tele2 has chosen Canonical’s BootStack as its managed cloud platform and Canonical will design, build, and manage Canonical OpenStack clouds in Tele2’s operating markets. Canonical OpenStack is the leading platform in NFV roll outs globally and supports a host of telecom specific characteristics including support for SR-IOV, DPDK and CPU pinning out of the box.

Tele2 will also be leveraging V-PIL, Canonical’s VNF Performance and Interoperability lab and Juju for application modelling (generic VNF management). Together these tools will ensure successful evaluation, onboarding and deployment of workloads to Tele2’s NFV infrastructure. Juju enables the modelling, configuration, testing and deployment of VNFs. Juju integrates with industry leading orchestration solutions and allows for a common model to be used to manage applications from different suppliers. With wide industry support, Tele2 will use Juju charms to deploy hundreds of preconfigured services to its customers across its Business, Consumer and IOT segments.

Today, March 30, 2016, Ubuntu Make developer Didier Roche has announced the general availability of Ubuntu Make 16.03 for all supported Ubuntu Linux operating systems.

For those not in the known, Ubuntu Make is an open-source command-line tool designed from the ground up to help developers and programmers install all sorts of third-party applications that aren't available in the Ubuntu repos or don't have a PPA.

According to Mr. Roche, Ubuntu Make 16.03 is here to add support for installing the Superpowers 2D/3D game maker software, as well as the Eclipse IDE for Java EE developers, IntelliJ IDEA EAP (Early Access Program), and the Kotlin compiler.

"I'm really delighted to announce a new Ubuntu Make release, scoring 16.03, bringing updates for a bunch of frameworks while introducing new support," says Didier Roche. "I'm also really proud as this new release features three new awesome contributors."

MS i Canonical uvode Ubuntu kao integrirani dodatak Windowsima 10. Surađuju na tome mislim preko godinu dana, prije par mjeseci su integrirali par linux distri i u svoj Azure cloud.

Ali ovo je drugačije. Radit će vjerojatno u nečemu nalik kontejneru unutar Windowsa i koristiti Windows kernel, dakle Ubuntu bez linux kernela.
To je namijenjeno programerima koji bi razvijali "cloud" aplikacije u Windowsima i odmah iste testirali na Ubuntu serveru. Iz tog razloga će uglavnom biti dostupni samo shell i ostali CLI programi. Još sve to nije službeno objavljeno pa ćemo vidjeti.
