I found a weird solution for this. This has worked for me every time I tried on my G500, so I am suggesting it:
Turn off your laptop
Remove power cable
Hold it upside down and shake it vigorously in up/down motion.
Turn it on
I am a computer engineer and I tried various other things (as explained at the end of answer). I know this solution sounds very absurd, but it works for me every single time so suggesting you to try (at your own risk).
Adding failed experiments
What else I had tried but didn't work:
Re-installed OS - didn't work
Played with BIOS options but didn't work
Formatted hard disk, merged partitions, installed different versions of Windows and Linux - didn't work
Played with batteries by exchanging batteries - didn't work
Got it serviced by a qualified technician - didn't work. Person gave up after some trials and mentioned some problem with motherboard and suggested replacing motherboard or buying a new laptop!
