Misliš na kernel?
Moglo bi se reći da ni Arch, Slackware, Gentoo, Mint pogotovo, niti bilo koji drugi sličan OS nije Linux nego koristi Linux, ali tako ne govorimo. Ubuntu je GNU/Linux sistem. Hoće li to ostati i u budućnosti ili će postati neki zaseban OS, samo baziran na Linux kernelu, poput Androida ili mnogih embedded sustava, vidjet ćemo, ali trenutno je GNU/Linux.

Naravno da je GNU/Linux sistem, al mnogi 'placu' kako treba vise da Ubuntu spominje 'linux', ako ce i spominjat sistem na kome je izgradjen onda naravno treba to biti GNU/Linux, al bolje je ovako, da ostane samo Ubuntu jer mnogu se i plase od rijeci Linux a kamoli od GNU ili FSF-a.
