Canonical's founder, Mark Shuttleworth, expressed his support for an official Budgie-powered Ubuntu flavor if there is enough interest in the community.

Some of you might ask what Budgie is, and you would be right to do so. This is a new (relative to the age of the others) desktop environment that's available by default in the Solus operating system. This is a Linux distro built from scratch, and the same developers are also making the desktop environment as well.

One the reasons why Ubuntu seems to have such a big hold on the Linux community has to do with the fact that there are a ton of official flavors that integrate various desktop environments, giving a little something for everyone. Some of the flavors are more famous than others, like Xubuntu, Kubuntu, or Ubuntu MATE, but there are a few that just provide different functionality.

Budgie for Ubuntu
There is nothing to stop developers from integrating Budgie in Ubuntu, and in fact, it's available right now, through a PPA. As you can imagine, it would be a much better experience for users if Budgie were implemented by default in an Ubuntu flavor.

Without being prompted or asked by anyone, Mark Shuttleworth, the found of Canonical, made a really interesting statement on Google+, which means that he probably follows the project.

"Happy to support an application to make this an official *buntu flavour, if there is a community around the packaging," said Mark.

Today, Canonical announced that it will create an ARM 64 developer environment based on Ubuntu Core and on the DragonBoard™ 410c by Arrow Electronics, which features the 64-bit Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 410 quad-core processor, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. This will be the very first ARM-based 64-bit development board and SoC available for Ubuntu Core, offering makers and Internet of Things (IoT) innovators an affordable, powerful yet flexible development environment, which can scale from ARM-based servers to embedded solutions. This offering builds on the DragonBoard 410c positioning as a standardised development board for the ARM ecosystem under the umbrella of Linaro’s open source 96Boards program.

Canonical also announced that it will make the Dragonboard 410c its reference platform for Ubuntu Core on ARM 64-bit. This means that future updates of the OS will be available for the DragonBoard 410c, making a stable development environment. The combination makes it an ideal platform for developers looking for a flexible way to develop a wide variety of applications – everything from prototyping, next-generation robots, medical devices, building automation, digital signage, and much more.

After winning the "Best of MWC" award from Trusted Reviews, Canonical today announced on its social networking accounts that the company behind Ubuntu Linux won two more awards during Mobile World Congress 2016.

The "Best of MWC" award from Trusted Reviews was giving to Canonical for the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet, which is the first of its kind, and the first truly converged device powered by the Ubuntu operating system.

Then, we've told you that Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Canonical and Ubuntu, had a keynote speech at the 4YFN (4 Years From Now) 2016 event that took place during Mobile World Congress 2016.

A few hours later, Canonical posted news that they won yet another award, together with Slock.it. They won the "Best IoT Startup" award, which was given to them by 4YFN, for running blockchain in homes using the Ubuntu Core operating system.

A few hours later after winning the "Best IoT Startup" award from 4YFN, Canonical announced that they've won a third award, which happens to be their second "Best of MWC" award, but this time from Tom's Hardware.

"And another! That's 3 awards at MWC16. Swing by so we can demo our BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet and Slock.it project, Hall 3 J30," bragged Canonical on their Google+ page.

Well, what can we say, congratulations to Canonical and Ubuntu for doing a great job these days on both the mobile and IoT fronts. We can't wait to get our hands on the BQ Aquaris M10 Ubuntu Edition tablet and Meizu PRO 5 Ubuntu Edition smartphone for a bunch of in-depth reviews.

Dell has announced that the Embedded Box PC 3000 Series and 5000 Series, furthering the partnership with Canonical by providing this hardware with Ubuntu.

Dell is already one of the biggest companies out there that offer Ubuntu with some of its hardware, and it looks like they are aiming at expanding this partnership with Canonical. In this case, the embedded Box PC 3000 Series and 5000 Series are also getting the Ubuntu treatment, along with a few Windows OSes.

With all the eyes focused on Barcelona and the Mobile World Congress 2016, another event took place in Nürnberg, Germany, between 23 and 25 February. This was dedicated to embedded systems, hence the name Embedded World Exhibition & Conference. It lacks the glamor of Barcelona, but some pretty interesting stuff has been happening there.
